David Dastmalchian joins Murderbot with Alexander Skarsgård

February 29, 2024 by Ricky Church

David Dastmalchian (Oppenheimer) has joined AppleTV+’s upcoming sci-fi series Murderbot. Per Deadline, the series based on The Murderbot Diaries novels by Martha Wells, where he will star alongside Alexander Skarsgård (The Northman).

Murderbot is developed by Chris and Paul Weitz (About A Boy) where they will showrun, write, direct and produce the 10-episode series. It follows “a self-hacking security android who is horrified by human emotion yet drawn to its vulnerable “clients.” Murderbot must hide its free will and complete a dangerous assignment when all it really wants is to be left alone to watch futuristic soap operas and figure out its place in the universe.”

Dastmalchian will play a character named Gurathin while Skarsgård is Murderbot. Skarsgård will also serve as a producer.

The Weitz Brothers will produce through their company Depth of Field alongside Andrew Miano with Wells as a consulting producer. Executive producing are David S. Goyer and Keith Levine for Phantom Four. Paramount Television is producing overall.

Dastmalchian will be seen next in the horror film Late Night with the Devil. Watch the trailer here.
