Percy Jackson & The Olympians season 2 casts Daniel Diemer as Tyson

July 26, 2024 by Ricky Church

Percy Jackson’s family is about to get even more complicated. At their San Diego Comic Con panel yesterday, Percy Jackson & The Olympians announced they have filled out the role of Tyson, Percy’s cyclops half-brother who joins Percy and his friends on their adventures to save the world.

In a video message to the crowd, Percy Jackson author Rick Riordan revealed Daniel Diemer (Under The Bridge) will portray Tyson in the series’ second season, which is set to begin production in Vancouver next week. The series’ Instagram also released a photo of Diemer on the set with lead Walker Scobell.

Diemer’s Tyson is “a young Cyclops who grew up all alone on the streets, and finds it difficult to survive in the human world.  Shy and awkward, with a heart almost as big as he is, Tyson soon discovers that Poseidon is his father, which means Percy Jackson is his half-brother… and that Tyson may have finally found a home.”

Season two of Percy Jackson & The Olympians will be based on the second book of the series, The Sea of Monsters. The official synopsis for the upcoming season reads:

Percy Jackson returns to Camp Half-Blood one year later to find his world turned upside down. His friendship with Annabeth is changing, he learns he has a cyclops for a brother, Grover has gone missing, and camp is under siege from the forces of Kronos. Percy’s journey to set things right will take him off the map and into the deadly Sea of Monsters, where a secret fate awaits the son of Poseidon.

“Daniel Diemer’s enthusiasm and talent brings a whole new dimension to Tyson, and it’s going to be incredible to see him in the second season,” Riordan said. “I can’t wait for you guys to meet him and welcome him to the Percy Jackson universe.”

Diemer also spoke to the audience in his own video message, telling the fans “I’m thrilled and honored to step into the extraordinary universe of Percy Jackson & The Olympians. Now, I’ve been a fan of the books since I was 10 years old, and it’s a dream come true to be a part of this and embark on such an exciting adventure with such talented cast and crew and, of course, passionate fans. I can’t wait to bring Tyson to life and to share his journey with you all.”

Percy Jackson & The Olympians stars Walker Scobell as Percy, Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth and Aryan Simhadri as Grover.
