Atari brings back classic brutal vehicular combat with Fatal Run 2089 trailer

August 28, 2024 by Andrew Newton

Atari has announced they are bringing the classic vehicle combat game Fatal Run back to gamers on PC and consoles next year with Fatal Run 2089.  Developed by MNSTR Studio, this updated version of the classic 1990 title utilises Unreal Engine 5 to bring life to the post-apocalyptic landscape.  You can watch the new trailer for this below…

In the world of Fatal Run 2089 a comet collided with the Earth and bathed the planet in a huge amount of radiation. Humanity, and all life, declined and those who were left formed fierce factions of wasteland warriors surviving by taking what others have using vehicles modified for speed and violence.

Those who step into the world of Fatal Run 2089 will join a brave group of scientists known as the ‘Engineers’, who have managed to create advanced clean energy devices (ARCs) that have the ability to purify the atmosphere and return the world to its former glory. Take the wheel of a vehicle carrying an ARC and speed through the post-apocalyptic chaos to save the world but stay alert for a new elite force that has emerged from the wastes and are determined to prevent the world’s salvation.

Fatal Run 2089 features:

  • Twenty levels spread over four diverse landscapes with hidden shortcuts, branching paths and explosive set pieces.
  • Four deadly bosses with unique tactics and abilities that will test driving skills.
  • Arcade-style challenges where players must race against the clock and manage the ARCs decay.
  • Collect in-game currency during each run and purchase upgrades to customise the vehicle.
  • Seven distinctive vehicles to choose from, each with their own unique performance traits. From quick and agile to heavily armoured, there’s a vehicle suitable for each run.
  • A variety of different weapons to collect to make the vehicle deadly to all who get in its way.

Fatal Run 2089 will release in 2025 on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4&5, Xbox One, Series X|S and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
