Sam Raimi could return to direct Doctor Strange 3

October 5, 2024 by Matt Rodgers

Sam Raimi is reportedly set to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to direct Doctor Strange 3.

According to The Insneider, the Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness director has “all but closed a deal” to return and helm the third solo-outing for Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sorcerer Supreme.

Raimi directed the original Spider-Man trilogy for Sony Pictures, swinging the ground-breaking superhero series to almost $2.5 billion at the worldwide box-office. Marvel Studios welcomed him into the MCU by tasking him with the job of helming 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which piggy-backed off the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home to the tune of $955 million from global cash-registers.

Multiverse of Madness ended with Charlie Theron being introduced during the end-credits as Clea, who appeared on Earth to enlist Strange’s help on a cosmic quest. It’s unclear whether she will return in the role.

Next up for the legendary director of The Evil Dead is a return to his horror roots with shipwreck survival drama Send Help.
