Robert Pattinson reveals when The Batman Part II will begin production

February 14, 2025 by Ricky Church

It has seemed like a pretty long wait for Batman fans as Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II has faced several shuffles in its release date with the latest pushback setting it for October 1st, 2027. The question following its newest delay has been when cameras would begin rolling on production, but we may have our answer now from the film’s lead star.

Robert Pattinson will reprise his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman in the anticipated sequel, but first he is starring in Parasite director Bong Joon Ho’s latest film Mickey 17. At the London premiere for the film, Pattinson briefly spoke with Variety about The Batman Part II and revealed production is expected to begin at the end of the year.

“I think at the end of the year? And I know what it’s about but I can’t tell anyone, but it’s like, it’s very cool. It’s very exciting,” Pattinson said.

Released in 2022, The Batman followed Batman’s early crime-fighting career as he hunted a serial killer known as The Riddler who was targeting many corrupt officials in a wide-ranging conspiracy. Of the film’s cast, only Pattinson and Zoë Kravitz, who played Selina Kyle/Catwoman, are set to reappear in the sequel but we’re certain to see other familiar faces return as well.

Though the wait for The Batman Part II will be long, Reeves and company have filled the void with HBO’s The Penguin, a spin-off series taking place a week after The Batman‘s conclusion. The series saw Colin Farrell reprise his unrecognizable role as Oswald Cobb/The Penguin as he plotted his rise through Gotham City’s underworld in the power vacuum left by Carmine Falcone’s death.

Starring alongside Farrell in The Penguin was Cristin Milioti as Sofia Falcone, Carmine’s daughter who also vied for control of the criminal family. Both Farrell and Milioti’s performances earned them several nominations in award ceremonies, including wins at the Critics’ Choice Television Awards and a win for Farrell at the Golden Globes.

The Batman Part II will be released on October 1st, 2027.
