Chris Hülsbeck to provide the soundtrack for Boulder Dash 40th Anniversary

February 18, 2025 by Andrew Newton

BBG Entertainment has announced that the legendary videogame composer Chris Hülsbeck (also known as Huelsbeck) will be providing the soundtrack for the upcoming Boulder Dash 40th Anniversary, which is set to launch this April on PC, Mac and consoles.

Chris Hülsbeck has provided the soundtracks to many great games over the decades and many games have been made great simply because of his music.  Some of those that stand out for me are Jim Power, Apidya, Turrican, X-Out, but there are so many more great game soundtracks worth listening to by this legend in videogaming.

“Boulder Dash was one of my absolute favourite games when I got my first C64 in the 80s. I’m delighted to be involved in the wonderful new edition of Boulder Dash 40th Anniversary and to be able to contribute a remix of the title music and sound effects,” says Chris Hülsbeck.

The Boulder Dash 40th Anniversary is set to be the most extensive version in the series to date. Not only will it feature the 60 original levels from the first three Boulder Dash titles with a brand-new look, it will also add over 80 new levels, including some of the best from the global Boulder Dash community.  There will also be an easy to use level editor and a selection of three different characters to play as.

Boulder Dash 40th Anniversary will feature:

  • A completely redesigned engine resembling the 80’s original.
  • 60 original levels for Boulder Dash 1-3.
  • Four brand-new worlds.
  • 80 completely new and balanced levels.
  • New and unique items, including growing walls, locked doors and more.
  • Editor construction kit.
  • Online high score and hall of fame.
  • Three different heroes to play as.

Look out for Boulder Dash 40th Anniversary arriving this April with a fantastic soundtrack by Chris Hülsbeck.
