Long-delayed Red Sonja movie reboot gets new image and R-rating

March 29, 2025 by Gary Collinson

Having wrapped production back in 2022, Millennium Media’s long-gestating and long-delayed Red Sonja reboot was finally confirmed to be seeing the light of day in 2025 last month, and while we’re yet to get an exact release date we do now have a brand new image from the film.

Released alongside the news that Red Sonja has been granted an R-rating for strong and bloody violence by the Motion Picture Association, the new image shows Matilda Lutz (Revenge) in the title role as the She-Devil with a Sword; check it out here…

Red Sonja is directed by M.J. Bassett (Solomon Kane) and sees Lutz joined in the cast by Robert Sheehan (The Umbrella Academy) as Draygan, Wallis Day (Krypton) as Annisia, Michael Bisping (Den of Thieves) as Hawk, Martyn Ford (Mortal Kombat 2) as General Karlak, Eliza Matengu (Swift Street) as Amarak, Veronica Ferres (Crisis) as Ashera and Rhona Mitra (Doomsday) in an as-yet-unrevealed role.

An early logline for the film, circulating since it wrapped production in late 2022, reads: “Enslaved by an evil tyrant who wishes to destroy her people, barbarian huntress Red Sonja must unite a group of unlikely warriors to face off against Dragan The Magnificent and his deadly bride, Dark Annisia.”

With the film now rated, hopefully it won’t be long until we get an official release date and trailer. In the meantime, let us know if you’re looking forward to Red Sonja over on our social channels @FlickeringMyth…
