Tom Baker returns for Doctor Who: The Fourth Doctor Adventures – The Ruins of Kaerula in June

April 25, 2025 by Andrew Newton

Big Finish has revealed that a new full-cast audio drama for the Fourth Doctor is set to arrive this June. Doctor Who: The Fourth Doctor Adventures – The Ruins of Kaerula brings more complications for Tom Baker’s Doctor as he travels with Leela and K9 through strange temporal effects.

The Fourth Doctor’s upcoming temporal exploits will take listeners to the world of Kaerula at different points in the timeline, while the third story reunites the travellers with the Brigadier.  The stories in this box set are:

L to R – Louise Jameson, Tom Baker, John Leeson

The Remains of Kaerula by Phil Mulryne takes the TARDIS to the planet Kaerula where the Doctor and his companions decide to explore, as they often tend to do. However, it isn’t long before they meet two escapees from a nearby containment camp, who warn them of mysterious cave creatures.  While Leela (Louise Jameson) and K9 (John Leeson) investigate the caves, the Doctor attempts to bring peace to the Kaerulans and the Rems, but time is running out.

Tom Baker, Jonathon Carley

In The Ruins of Kaerula (also by Phil Mulryne), the Doctor and his companions attempt to leave Kaerula, but an out of control experiment forces the TARDIS back to an earlier point in the planet’s history. Now stranded, the travellers end up meeting different versions of the people they recently met as well as dealing with the consequences of their own actions as the TARDIS wasn’t the only thing the out of control experiment dragged to the planet.

The third episode, Cry of the Banshee by Tim Foley, sees the TARDIS arrive in a stormy Geneva after receiving a Time-Space Telegraph from Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart (played by Jon Culshaw).  The Brigadier explains how an Irish peace delegate died of fright after claiming to be visited by a banshee and it isn’t long before these events lead the four to a thirtieth century space station orbiting Jupiter. Can the Doctor find the cause of this strange death or will the secrets and dangers add more to their difficulties?

The Fourth Doctor Adventures: The Ruins of Kaerula is available to pre-order now for £19.99 for the download or £24.99 for the download and limited edition 3-disc box set. Alternatively, all three of the Fourth Doctor box sets – the March release, this upcoming June release and September’s can be pre-ordered now for £58 for the download and £70.50 for the download and limited edition box sets.
