Tom Hanks returning to WWII for Greyhound sequel

April 25, 2025 by Ricky Church

Tom Hanks’ WWII epic Greyhound is getting a sequel that will be set around D-Day and the Pacific theatre, according to Variety. The film will begin production early next year in Sydney, Australia.

Hanks will reprise his role as Captain Krause that will “follow Krause and the Greyhound crew from the beaches of Normandy to the ocean in the Pacific as they help turn the tide of the war.”

Released in 2020, Greyhound was based on actual events as well as the 1955 novel The Good Shepard, focusing on Hanks as an inexperienced naval captain who is tasked with leading the Allied convoy across the Atlantic in German U-boat waters. The film did very well for Apple upon release as it was just getting its streaming service off the ground.

Hanks may not be the only cast member from the original film to return as Stephen Graham (Adolescence) and other key cast are in talks to reprise their roles. The script for Greyhound 2 was written by Hanks and will see director Aaron Schneider and producer Gary Goetzman returning for the sequel.

In a thrilling story inspired by actual events, from a screenplay by and starring Tom Hanks, a first-time captain leads a convoy of allied ships carrying thousands of soldiers across the treacherous waters of the “Black Pit” in the Atlantic to the front lines of WW2. With no air cover protection for 5 days, the captain and his convoy must battle the surrounding enemy Nazi U-boats in order to give the allies a chance to win the war.
