Leslie Jones threatens to quit Twitter over Ghostbusters hate

March 9, 2016 by admin

The first trailer for the Ghostbusters reboot hasn’t gone down all that smoothly with fans of the series or certain aspects of the movie going audience [read the Flickering Myth reaction here]. As was probably to be expected, Paul Feig and his cast of new Ghostbusters have been getting a lot of abuse on social media, and now one of the stars is threatening to quit Twitter over it.

“Think today will be the day I get rid of Twitter,” Leslie Jones tweeted yesterday. “Gonna really be thinking on it. Not sure I want to need it anymore. Know what I mean?”

I think today will be the day I get rid of Twitter. Gonna really be thinking on it. Not sure I want to need it anymore. Know what I mean?

Previously Jones had been all for the ‘hate’ and wasn’t “taking anything to heart”, but whether its Men’s Rights Activisits complaining about the all-female cast, fans of the series upset over the trailer, Black Rights Activists calling the film racist for having the black character be the only one who isn’t a scientist or a combination of all three has caused the comedian to consider getting out of dodge.

The director of the movie, Paul Feig, jumped to her defence and once again lashed out at the critics of the movie.

Don't leave us, @Lesdoggg. You are a goddess & one of the warmest funniest forces of nature I know. Fuck the haters. https://t.co/rwh8CIxCk4

— Paul Feig (@paulfeig) March 8, 2016

And haters, attack me all you want but when you attack and insult my cast, you've crossed the line. Grow up and leave my cast alone.

— Paul Feig (@paulfeig) March 8, 2016

Ghostbusters is set for release on July 22nd, 2016 and sees Paul Feig (Spy) directing a cast that also includes Kristin Wiig (Bridesmaids), Melissa McCarthy (Spy), Leslie Jones (Saturday Night Live), Kate McKinnon (Saturday Night Live), Chris Hemsworth (Avengers: Age of Ultron), Andy Garcia (The Godfather: Part III), Michael K.
