Paul McGann’s Eighth Doctor meets a familiar face in Doctor Who: Time War – Uncharted: Branches

April 1, 2026 by Andrew Newton

Big Finish Productions will be releasing Doctor Who: Time War – Uncharted: Branches, a brand-new audio drama box set in May that will see the Eighth Doctor meet the very first face he saw when he first regenerated – Dr Grace Holloway, but is she a friend or foe?

Throughout the Time War – Uncharted series so far, the Eighth Doctor, his great-grandson Alex and starship pilot Cass have been travelling through a strange new universe, while trying to avoid the war between the Time Lords and Daleks. Throughout all this, the Doctor has also had to deal with the shady temporal diplomat Hieronyma Friend, who has taken on the appearance of his past companions. Will the Doctor finally see through her disguise?

The four new tales of adventure in this box set are:

The Only Girl in the World by John Dorney – on their search for Cass, the Doctor and Alex happen upon a slave spaceship containing the Uncharted Universe’s version of Cass – the swashbuckling and dangerous Cassie. As revenge for the destruction of her homeworld, Cassie believes it is her destiny to stop the man who caused it. But why is her destiny proving so hard to fulfil?

False Dawn by Alison Winter – A galactic quarantine is in place thanks to an invasive species that is spreading across the universe and through multiple dimensions. As the Doctor looks to investigate this contagion, even the TARDIS begins to struggle with keeping everything inside. Can the Doctor prevent this weakening of the walls between worlds?

From L to R: Emma Campbell-Jones, Sonny McGann, Carole Ann Ford and Paul McGann.

Council of Susan by Tim Foley – A dangerous barrier stands in the way of the TARDIS and its crew, but when they stumble across an organisation known as the Council of Susan, who all know of the time traveller called ‘Grandfather’, is a family reunion on the cards?

All Over by Patrick O’Connor – An empty blue box on the ice, a friendly face to drag it to safety, and a rundown house where someone will face their destiny make this a particularly mysterious story.

Joining Paul McGann are Daphne Ashbrook as Grace/ Friend, Carole Ann Ford as Susan, Emma Campbell-Jones as Cass/Cassie, Sonny McGann as Alex and Nicholas Briggs as the Daleks.

Doctor Who: Time War – Uncharted: Branches is now available to pre-order for £24.99 for the download, or £35.99 for the download and limited collector’s edition box set.
