New Commando comics bring more wartime excitement to readers

June 10, 2026 by Andrew Newton

The latest batch of Commando comics is now available and brings the excitement and adventure that only these war comics can bring. As usual, these four new issues feature two new stories and two classics from the 70s and 80s.

Fans of Commando can enjoy tales about Nazi cowboys in Italy, fighting Tiger tanks and much more, in the following four comics:

Commandos Vs Cowboys – 5963 (Home of Heroes)

It’s high noon in the Italian town of San Cavino, where Nazi cowboys have formed the SS George Washington Legion and are causing huge problems for both the Allies and the town’s civilians. British Captain Andrew Ashe and his elite Commando unit have been called in to take down this turncoat regiment, and SAS Major Hugh Hulke comes along to help them do that. But are his actions done for justice or revenge?

Readers can enjoy a gripping story by Rossa McPhillips, with art by Marc Viure and cover art by Marco Bianchini.

Hero on Horseback – 5964 (Gold)

In this classic story by Spence, the Allies have discovered a large Nazi Panzer supply base that needs to be taken out; the only problem are the Tiger tanks guarding the base. Will Captain Brad Blake get past these using bombs, rockets, artillery, or just charge in with his own roughneck, bareback cavalry?

This story was first published in 1972 as No.613, and features art by AC Kennedy and cover art by Penalva.

What Are You Doing Here? – 5965 (For Action and Adventure)

Sitting on a chair in a small medieval church is Private David Taylor, a man who can climb like a monkey and talk the hind legs off a donkey, but at this moment, he is tied to the chair under interrogation. Fuelled by cruelty and a desire for revenge for the Normandy Invasion, Hauptmann Lange is out to find out one thing from Taylor … What Are You Doing Here?

This new story is created by Andrew Knighton, and brought to life with art by Vicente Alcazar. Cover art is by Marco Bianchini.

The Last Raiders – 5966 (Silver)

After a raid on a big American harbour, a small group of Italian sailors abandon their midget submarine and make a desperate bid for freedom over the border into Mexico. With a good distance between them and safety, and every police force and army unit on the alert for them, can they make it?

This story, first published in 1985 as No. 1882, is written by Bill Fear, with art by Blasco and a cover by Jeff Bevan.

These latest issues of Commando are available from newsagents and DC Thompson’s Commando website now.
