Juan Antonio Bayona to direct World War Z sequel

December 11, 2013 by admin

After a somewhat troubled production, Paramount’s big-budget zombie epic World War Z went on to become one the surprise hits of the year, banking a hefty $540 million worldwide, and now the studio has secured a director for the follow-up, with The Hollywood Reporter revealing that Spanish filmmaker Juan Antonio Bayona has signed on the helm the sequel.

According to the site, Bayona – whose directing credits include The Orphanage and The Impossible – “was on the very short shortlist of directors a few weeks ago. He met with Pitt, who produced Z via his Plan B banner and is also producing the sequel, before getting the gig.” Bayona will also oversee the writing process, although no scribe is attached at present.

Are you looking forward to the World War Z sequel, and is Bayona the right man for the job? Let us know in the comments below….
