Mark Rylance to reunite with Steven Spielberg on Ready Player One

April 14, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Fresh from the news that Mark Rylance will be reuniting with Steven Spielberg on The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara, it is now being reported that Rylance is also in talks for Spielberg’s next project, the adaptation of Ernest Cline’s 2011 novel Ready Player One.

Rylance won an Oscar for his turn in Spielberg’s Bridge of Spies, and is also starring in the title role in the director’s upcoming Roald Dahl adaptation The BFG. He is currently about to start work on Christopher Nolan’s World War II movie Dunkirk, which starts shooting next month.

Should Rylance sign on to Ready Player One, he will join a cast that includes Tye Sheridan (X-Men: Apocalypse), Olivia Cooke (Me, Earl and the Dying Girl), Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) and Simon Pegg (Star Trek Beyond). The film is slated for release on March 30th, 2018.
