Call of Duty: Ghosts earns a billion in its first day of release

November 6, 2013 by admin

Back in September, Rockstar Games and Take Two Interactive’s Grand Theft Auto V racked up $1 billion in just three days (becoming the quickest entertainment product to reach that total), with first day sales of $800 million. While that feat seemed staggering, Activision has now shattered the record, with the publisher announcing that Call of Duty: Ghosts has exceeded $1 billion on its first day on shelves.

The $1 billion milestone reflects sales to retailers as opposed to consumer purchases, and unlike GTA V, this includes Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Windows PC and Wii U, as well as retail copies for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. So, with that in mind, it’s likely that GTA V will have shifted more units on its first day, seeing as it was only available for Xbox 360 and PS3, but considering the previous Call of Duty, Black Ops II, took 15 days to hit a billion, Activision certainly have plenty to celebrate.
