Iron Man and Elf director Jon Favreau may be busy filming is “little indie film” Chef starring himself, Robert Downey Jr. and Dustin Hoffman, but he’s found time to enter negotiations to direct Disney’s upcoming adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book.
This would be Disney’s third adaptation of the book following the classic animated feature and the flawed 1990’s live action version. The book is currently in public domain and this is one of several versions currently in production.
Favreau’s last “family film” was the now Christmas classic Elf and although his last feature was the dull and tedious Cowboys & Aliens, Jungle Book could see him returning to his early career form. As yet there’s no word on casting, but the script will be written by Justin Marks (Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li).
