Kate Mara would return for a Fantastic Four sequel

August 25, 2016 by Justin Cook

It’s been over a year since Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four opened in cinemas around the world and quickly became one of the most maligned movies of 2015, and, although most comic book movie fans have come to peace with the idea that an adequate on-screen adaptation of the superhero team will never be made, Fox is still figuring out exactly what to do next with the franchise.

If the film hadn’t garnered such measly returns at the box office, the studio would be moving forward with a sequel set for release next year, but such is not the case. However, surprisingly, certain actors from the film aren’t entirely ready to distance themselves from the flop, as earlier this month Miles Teller (Reed Richards) said he’d be interested in doing a sequel, and now Kate Mara has done the same.

Mara, who played Sue Storm/Invisible Woman in the film, talked to IGN while promoting her new movie Morgan and answered a question about potentially reprising her role. She said, “Oh yeah I would love to be a part of a Fantastic Four sequel or whatever they may or may not have in store for us. And I know that all the guys feel the same way. We loved working with each other and we would love to actually play these characters in another way somehow in the future. I have no idea if that’s actually true, if that will happen. But I would be really happy to do it.”

Despite Teller and Mara expressing interest, getting the whole gang back together, which also includes Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Bell, for a sequel would be difficult, mostly because Jordan has already jumped shipped to Marvel Studios for 2018’s Black Panther. Although plenty of actors have played two superheroes/supervillains over the course of their careers, playing two at the same time between two different studios is much rarer. But, then again, if Simon Kinberg and company were determined to make a sequel, he’d surely find a way around this problem.
