Earlier this week we heard that the Stretch Armstrong movie has been cancelled, but that doesn’t mean Hollywood is going to stop producing films based on beloved toys.
Today, it has been announced that Titanic stuntman Simon Crane will direct the Hot Wheels movie, with Donnie Brasco and Quiz Show writer Paul Attanasio attached to write. Crane may have very little experience as a director, but he’s worked as a second unit director on Troy, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and World War Z.
The plot for Hot Wheels will focus on a “dangerous military device falling into the hands of a criminal which forces a washed-up Illinois State Trooper to fight the man his father put behind bars.”
We’ve already got the Fast & Furious franchise and next year’s Aaron Paul-headlined Need for Speed, which means that Hot Wheels will have a lot of competition when it’s released in 2015. Clearly the the hectic racing genre will never die out.
