Jeph Loeb on Agent Carter and the future of Marvel’s TV universe

October 14, 2013 by admin

With Marvel having taken its first steps into live-action television with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., we’ve already heard talk that the Marvel One-Shot Agent Carter could be heading to the small screen, as well as confirmation from Captain America: The First Avenger star Hayley Atwell that she’d be keen to return to the role for a potential series. Well, IGN caught up with Marvel’s Head of Television Jeph Loeb at the New York Comic Con this weekend, asking him whether an Agent Carter show is about to become a reality. “Wouldn’t that be great?” says Loeb. “You know what, that’s what I love about Hayley, that she thinks it’s a great idea. It’s kind of like when you have all the ingredients to make a really yummy sandwich. That’s what you want to do is make that sandwich.”

Loeb was then asked whether we should expect to see further Marvel shows added to the TV schedules: “Well that’s certainly the plan. I think the people at Marvel would look at me and go, ‘so what’s next?’ But again I think the thing that’s important is we took our lessons from the studio. The studio came out, they made Iron Man, then two years later they made Iron Man 2, then the leap to make Thor and Captain America, you know when you think about that, to make two movies in one year that kind of doubled their output [note – I guess he forgot about The Incredible Hulk]. It’s the same kind of thing. We just want to make sure that S.H.I.E.L.D. is running, it’s the show that people expect, and it’s on good solid ground with great acting, spectacular visual effects and really having that epic adventure feel with human spirit tied into it and just the right amount of humour in it. We get that right, then a lot more becomes open to us.”

And as for when these shows might appear, it seems that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is the main priority for the immediate future: “We’re not in any kind of rush. By the time we finish this season, we’ll have told more stories in the Marvel Cinematic Universe than all the movies combined and that’s a big challenge. We’ve been very lucky that the guys who are over at the movie studio have been very involved in what we do in checking it out and giving us ideas and that kind of thing, so it’s great.”

What other Marvel shows might you like to see on the small screen? Let us know in the comments below….
