We’ve lost count of the number of times its been pushed back, but it seems that production on James Cameron’s four Avatar sequels is finally set to get underway this year.
Speaking to THR at a screening for her new film The Assignment, Sigourney Weaver revealed that the cast is now starting training for the hugely-ambitious shoot, and cameras will be rolling by the fall.
“I’m telling you, these scripts are so amazing,” said Weaver. “I’m not worried about [disappointing fans] at all. Am I worried about how we’re going to bring them to life? Yes, because they’re so ambitious. They’re so worth it. They’re well worth waiting for. I’m not worried about that at all. We’re trying to get it done as quickly as possible.”

Back in January, James Cameron revealed that all four scripts were now complete and that he was pressing full steam ahead with pre-production, although he then conceded that Avatar 2’s most recent release date of December 2018 was “not happening”. Perhaps, if filming does get underway later this year, we’ll see the first sequel in 2019?
