Sylvester Stallone’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 role may have been revealed

April 7, 2017 by Gary Collinson

While we know from director James Gunn that Sylvester Stallone will be playing a “very important” Marvel character in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, all we’ve had to go on are various rumours pointing from the likes of Nova – or a member of the Nova Corps – to one of Yondu’s Ravagers.

Well, now we can add another name to the list, as Italian website MovvesBook has shared a press release which apparently reveals that Stallone is playing the role of Stakar, who is presumably Stakar Ogord, better known as Starhawk. This is further supported by a report on MCU Exchange, which states that the junior novelization reveals that Yondu encounters “a legend among the Ravagers”, who mentions the name Aleta, a character who happens to be Starhawk’s sister in the comic book universe. So, while it’s not quite official just yet, it certainly looks like it could be accurate.

The son of Quasar and Kismet (a.k.a. Ayesa, who is portrayed by Elizabeth Debicki in the movie), Starhawk does have links to the Guardians of the Galaxy, having teamed up with the 31st century incarnation of the team for various adventures.

Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is scheduled for release on April 28th 2017 in the UK and on May 5th in the States, with director James Gunn reuniting with returning cast members Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Bradley Cooper (Rocket), Vin Diesel (Groot), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Michael Rooker (Yondu), Glenn Close (Nova Prime) and Sean Gunn (Kraglin) alongside new additions Pom Klementieff (Oldboy) as Mantis, Elizabeth Debicki (The Man from U.N.C.L.E.) as Ayesha, Kurt Russell (The Hateful Eight) as Ego the Living Planet, Chris Sullivan (The Drop) as Taserface and Sylvester Stallone (Creed) and Michael Rosenbaum (Smallville) in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
