UPDATE: R-rated Hellboy reboot announced, Neil Marshall to direct and David Harbour to star

May 9, 2017 by Robert Kojder

Despite a very vocal following clamoring for a Hellboy 3 starring a returning Ron Perlman with Guillermo del Toro once again in the director’s chair, the sequel was never able to get the go-ahead for production. However, fans will be getting more Hellboy in the form of an R-rated reboot.

Hellboy creator Mike Mignola recently took to his Facebook page to reveal the juicy details, also announcing some controversial news that Ron Perlman would be replaced as the superhero. Mignola stated “Okay, here’s some news–There IS going to be another HELLBOY MOVIE. It’s going to be an R-rated reboot directed by Neil Marshall (The Descent, Game Of Thrones) and starring David Harbour (Stranger Things) as Hellboy. More news to come soon”

The R rating is also interesting, as the reboot is most likely looking to capitalize on the recent success of the trend of R-rated blockbuster films such as Deadpool and Logan.

UPDATE: THR is reporting that the film is going by the working title of Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen, and will be scripted by Andrew Cosby, Christopher Golden and Mike Mignola. Millennium Films is in talks to produce the project.

Let us know below in the comments if you are excited for this R-rated Hellboy reboot directed by Neil Marshall and starring David Harbour, or if you’d have preferred to see del Toro and Perlman closing out their trilogy…
