Mission: Impossible director wants to make an Alexander the Great film

July 5, 2017 by Samuel Brace

The director of Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation and the upcoming Mission: Impossible 6, Christopher McQuarrie, has said that he is still interested in making a film about Alexander the Great.

The most famous adaptation of the life and times of the ancient king perhaps comes in the form of Oliver Stone’s epic Alexander. And while that particular movie wasn’t received well upon its 2004 release, that isn’t stopping Christopher McQuarrie from wanting a crack at the legendary figure.

A passion project of the filmmaker, stemming from the very early parts of his career, McQuarrie has moved on to other projects but has kept the idea in the back of his mind should an opportunity one day arise.

And when asked on Twitter about his interest in still bring the project to life, perhaps on Netflix, McQuarrie answered pretty affirmatively, confirming his desires.

War films are certainly coming back in fashion as of late, and there is no story so full of epic battles than that of the Macedonian king Alexander, who fought his way from Greece all the way to the jungles of India.

Has it been long enough since the Oliver Stone effort? It would certainly be a mammoth undertaking to tell the story correctly. Whether demand for such a grand sword and sandal epic exists right now is dubious. However, if anyone would be game it would surely be Netflix.
