Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen could head to Lionsgate

July 6, 2017 by Ricky Church

Though it was announced back in May that Hellboy is to receive a reboot with the R-rated Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen, with Neil Marshall directing and Stranger Things‘ David Harbour starring as the title character, there was no word on a potential studio to produce and distribute the movie. That may change however as the film could be heading to Lionsgate.

Per The Splash Report, Lionsgate has entered advance negotiations to release the reboot. The first Hellboy was released by Columbia Pictures in 2004 while its sequel, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, was released by Universal in 2008. As the new film is aiming for an R-rating and a darker, grittier tale, it could be something up Lionsgate’s alley, especially as they hope to break in the comic book/shared universe genre that Warner Bros., Marvel and Universal are already cornering.
