Nightwing director explains why the film wasn’t part of Warner’s DC slate at Comic-Con

August 5, 2017 by Gary Collinson

During the San Diego Comic-Con last month, Warner Bros. unveiled its next slate of DC Extended Universe movies, although there were several notable omissions, including the long-rumoured Man of Steel 2, Cyborg, Gotham City Sirens and Nightwing.

Director David Ayer has already debunked rumours that he’s off Gotham City Sirens, and now Nightwing helmer Chris McKay has revealed why the Dick Grayson solo movie wasn’t included as part of the line-up.

“I’ve turned down films because they were backed into a release date that made it difficult to make a great film,” said The LEGO Batman Movie director, responding to a question on Twitter about the film’s absence at Comic-Con. “This isn’t going to be like that. I want this movie to blow you away. We need time to get it right.”

So, it would seem that we’re still going to be a few years out from seeing Nightwing on the big screen, although Warner Bros. has already made a number of changes to its DCEU schedule, so presumably we could see another reshuffle if McKay and company feel confident that they’re ready to move forward with the movie. Still, it’s certainly good to know that they are taking their time to ensure they get it right.
