Rumour: Early cut of Justice League deemed “unwatchable”, ending reportedly changed

August 12, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Over the past couple of months, Justice League has been undergoing some expensive reshoots under director Joss Whedon, who stepped in to take over the DC blockbuster after Zack Snyder’s daughter passed away.

As you’d expect with a film of this magnitude, there’s been plenty of rumour and speculation surrounding said reshoots, with reports claiming they will greatly alter the film, while members of the cast such as Ray Fisher and Ben Affleck have played down the speculation by calling them standard.

Chances are we’ll never fully know the reasoning behind the reshoots, but according to a report from Batman-on-Film, the answer is quite simple – “an early cut of the film was deemed ‘unwatchable'”, with the studio then demanding substantial changes to the film.

There is of course nothing to substantiate this report, but it should probably be noted that BoF did originally report that the reshoots would take place throughout June, July and into August, which has proven to be the case. And, if it is true, fans should probably take some solace in the fact that Warner Bros. has invested heavily in trying to fix any issues.

Meanwhile, on /Film Daily, it’s been claimed that Joss Whedon will be completely changing the ending of the movie; apparently, the film would have concluded with Darkseid arriving on Earth, setting the stage for Justice League 2. However, the movie will reportedly now downplay the threat of Darkseid and feel more like a complete movie as opposed to a cliffhanger for a sequel.

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League will reunite Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta and Robin Wright as General Antiope alongside J.K. Simmons (Whiplash) as Commissioner Gordon, Amber Heard (The Danish Girl) as Mera, Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man) as Vulko, Kiersey Clemons (Dope) as Iris West, Ciaran Hinds (Game of Thrones) as Steppenwolf, and Julian Lewis Jones (Stella) and Michael McElhatton (Game of Thrones) in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
