Star Wars Episode IX loses director, Wonder Woman is a box office hero, new Thor: Ragnarok promo posters and more – Daily News Roundup

TROUBLE IN LUCASFILM

Following the news a couple of months ago that Phil Lord and Chris Miller exited the Han Solo spin-off movie with only a few weeks of production left, it was revealed yesterday that Colin Trevorrow has left the director’s chair of Star Wars: Episode IX over creative differences. According to EW, there have been rumblings of discontent for several months, which have now come to a head. It’s another blow for Trevorrow, whose latest film The Book of Henry was savaged by critics and audiences. Read more here.

SNOKE SECRETS

With just a few months to go until the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, there are still several questions surrounding the film, particularly over the Sequel Trilogy’s central villains. J.J. Abrams didn’t reveal much about Supreme Leader Snoke in The Force Awakens, and director Rian Johnson isn’t looking to elaborate any further either. Read more here.

WONDER WOMAN IS A BOX OFFICE HERO

With big releases like Wonder Woman and Dunkirk, Warner Bros. has won the summer box office battle. The studio brought in $790 million domestically. Unfortunately, for WB this was 7% down from last year, WB shouldn’t feel too bad in its numbers dipping compared to last year, however, as other studios fell such as Disney (-39%), Universal (-34%) and Paramount (-33%). DADDY’S HOME AGAIN

The Ellen Show debuted a new trailer for Sean Anders’ upcoming comedy sequel Daddy’s Home 2 which sees the director reuniting with returning stars Mark Wahlberg, Will Ferrell, Linda Cardellini, John Cena, Scarlett Estevez, Owen Vaccaro and Alessandra Ambrosio alongside new additions Mel Gibson and John Lithgow. RAGNAROK IS COMING

Marvel Studios released two new promo posters for the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok featuring Chris Hemsworth’s God of Thunder and Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk preparing to do battle. Read more here.

HOMECOMING IS COMING HOME

Everyone’s favourite neighbourhood Spider-Man will be making his way onto home video quite soon. Spider-Man: Homecoming will be getting a digital release on September 26 before its release on 4K, Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray and DVD on October 17. Sony has also announced the special features that will come with the various home video releases. Check out the special features here.
