Arrow executive producer rules out a Batman appearance

December 30, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Back in October, Stephen Amell’s Oliver Queen name-dropped Bruce Wayne in an episode of Arrow, sparking speculation that The CW may have been lining up a potential appearance from the Dark Knight in its long-running DC TV series. However, it seems that isn’t the case after all, as executive producer Marc Guggenheim has revealed that the reference was nothing more than a fun little Easter egg.

“No, I love a good Easter egg, and I love doing the occasional name drop,” said Guggenheim in an interview with Comic Book. “You know, we name dropped Hal Jordan at the beginning of Season 3, but it’s really just fun for us. I think in the Arrowverse we have our own Justice League and the Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Batman … these are all characters that are either spoken for on the movie side and/or other shows. There’s a Bruce Wayne on Gotham. Over here on the CW, we’re sort of a mischievous lot, and we enjoy the occasional Easter egg. And our partners at DC are very tolerant of our mischief. But that’s really all it is. Just good nature, good fanboy mischief.”

So, it would appear that we can safely rule out a Batman appearance in the Arrowverse any time soon – although The Flash does of course feature prominently, while The CW did also manage to get permission for Superman to appear in Supergirl, so you can never say never…
