Lupita Nyong’o was unable to get tickets to Black Panther after it sold out

January 12, 2018 by Samuel Brace

People are pretty keen to see Marvel’s Black Panther, so much so that Lupita Nyong’o couldn’t buy a ticket.

Tickets to the anticipated next movie in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, Black Panther, went on sale this past Monday and Fandango has since announced that the movie has surpassed Captain America: Civil War in selling the most first-day advance tickets of any Marvel Cinematic Universe movie in history.

One of the film’s stars, Lupita Nyong’o, who plays Wakandan operative Nakia in the movie, was even unable to pick up a ticket for herself due to the demand.

Posting a video on Twitter about her dilemma, Nyong’o revealed that 15 minutes after they went on sale, cinemas were already selling out.

“I kid you not, 15 minutes later, I was trying to purchase tickets, and they are sold out,” Nyong’o happily exclaimed. “Sold out!”

@THR says @theblackpanther is @MarvelStudios best-selling movie in terms of presales after JUST 24 HOURS! Don’t I know it: I even tried!!!! #Throwback to a video I made last night. pic.twitter.com/aoJcdaqfhi

It will certainly be interesting to see the extent that this early demand translates into box office numbers and just how much Black Panther can pull in during its opening weekend.

After the events of Captain America: Civil War, King T’Challa returns home to the reclusive, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to serve as his country’s new leader. However, T’Challa soon finds that he is challenged for the throne from factions within his own country. When two foes conspire to destroy Wakanda, the hero known as Black Panther must team up with C.I.A. agent Everett K. Ross and members of the Dora Milaje, Wakandan special forces, to prevent Wakanda from being dragged into a world war.

Black Panther sees Ryan Coogler (Creed) directing Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa alongside Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, Michael B. Jordan as Erik Killmonger, Danai Gurira as Okoye, Winston Duke as M’Baku, Forest Whitaker as Zuri, Daniel Kaluuya as W’Kabi, Angela Bassett as Ramonda, Florence Kasumba as Ayo, Martin Freeman as Everett Ross, Andy Serkis as Ulysses Klaue, Letitia Wright as Shuri and Nabiyah Be as Nightshade. The film is set for release on February 12th in the UK and on February 16th in the States.
