Gotham City Sirens reportedly on hold due to Suicide Squad 2, Birds of Prey and Joker vs Harley

January 20, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Despite being absent from the last two DC Films slate announcements by Warner Bros., Suicide Squad director David Ayer stated recently that development continues on Gotham City Sirens, the planned spinoff movie centring on Harley Quinn, Catwoman and Poison Ivy.

However, with Margot Robbie gearing up for her return as Harley Quinn this year, The Wrap is reporting that Warner Bros. currently has three Harley movies on its development slate – and that Gotham City Sirens isn’t among them.

First up is Suicide Squad 2, with The Accountant helmer Gavin O’Connor writing and directing, and the project reportedly being lined up to shoot later this year once Will Smith wraps production on the sci-fi action thriller Gemini Man.

In addition to this, we also have Birds of Prey, which has Christina Hodson (Bumblebee) working on a script that will feature Harley alongside multiple female heroes and villains, as well as the previously announced Joker vs Harley movie from Glenn Ficarra and John Requa (Crazy, Stupid, Love).

It had been rumoured previously that the Joker and Harley movie had replaced Gotham City Sirens, although that was quickly denied. However, it seems there’s been very little in the way of movement on Gotham City Sirens, and with David Ayer recently signing up for Bright 2, it’s certainly not unthinkable that Warner Bros. has decided to focus its attention elsewhere.

Will you be disappointed if we don’t get a Gotham City Sirens movie, or would you rather see Birds of Prey and Joker vs Harley? Let us know in the comments below…
