William Fichtner confirms he’s playing The Shredder in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Last month William Fichtner (The Dark Knight, Drive Angry) joined the cast of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in “a lead role with iconic stature in the Turtles’ mythology,” leading many to speculate that director Jonathan Leibesman (Wrath of the Titans) and producer Michael Bay (Transformers 4) had found their Shredder for the live-action reboot. Well, it turns out the speculation was indeed correct, with Fichtner confirming that he’s set to go up against the TMNT as Oroku Saki when the Heroes in a Half-Shell return to the screen next year.

“I play Shredder,” Fichtner tells Huffington Post Canada. “It’s one of those things that came along where I thought, “Really? Let me think about this for a minute.” [Laughs] Then I was like, “Yeah, OK, this sounds like a journey.” I’m very glad that it worked out, I’m really glad that I’m doing it.” 

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is currently filming ahead of a release on June 6th, 2014, with a cast that also includes Megan Fox (Transformers) as April O’Neil, Alan Ritchson (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) as Raphael, Pete Ploszek (Parks and Recreation) as Leonardo, Jeremy Howard (How the Grinch Stole Christmas) as Donatello, Noel Fisher (Battle Los Angeles) as Michaelangelo, Danny Woodburn (Seinfeld) as Splinter, Will Arnett (Arrested Development) as Vernon Fenwick and Whoopi Goldberg (Sister Act) as Bernadette Thompson.
