Paramount Pictures looking to launch Ology franchise on the big screen

February 6, 2018 by Gary Collinson

According to Deadline, Paramount Pictures has snapped up the rights to the Ology series of books, tapping Akiva Goldsman to head up a writers room in the hope of launching a new family-friendly big screen franchise.

Joining Oscar-winner Goldsman in the Ology writers room are Jeff Pinkner (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle), Lindsey Beer (The Kingkiller Chronicle), Joe Robert Cole (The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story), Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy), Christina Hodson (Bumblebee) and author Michael Chabon (Wonder Boys). The plan is to produce seven scripts featuring interconnected stories, based around a research institute where the fringe sciences that no one else takes seriously are studied in earnest. Goldsman set to serve as producer as well as penning one of the screenplays.

The Ology series consists of 13 books, with each given a fictional author, and purported to be “lost” journals of fictional investigators. The series has sold over 18 million copies worldwide, with titles including the likes of Dragonology, Wizardology, Pirateology, Monsterology, Vampireology, Alienology and Dinosaurology.
