Back in September of last year it was reported that Sony was looking to tap filmmaker Spike Lee to direct its planned Spider-Man spinoff Nightwatch, and now comes word that the project is still moving forward and has found itself a new screenwriter.
According to That Hashtag Show, Lee is now confirmed to direct, while Luke Cage showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker will be working on a rewrite of the screenplay originally penned by Edward Ricourt.
Debuting in Web of Spider-Man #97 in 1993, Nightwatch – a.k.a. Doctor Kevin Trench – gains his superpowers after witnessing the death of a costumed hero, who turns out to be a future version of himself.
While details on the project are scarce, it is believed that the project will exist within Sony’s shared Spider-Man universe, which is set to launch this October with Venom and also includes the recently-delayed Silver & Black and a Morbius, the Living Vampire movie.
