Mark Hamill wants Luke to make a “frightening” return in Star Wars: Episode IX

March 22, 2018 by Samuel Brace

Mark Hamill has expressed his hopes for Luke Skywalker, should the character appear in Star Wars: Episode IX.

As we all know by now, Luke Skywalker sadly perished towards the end of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but, with Luke being a masterful Jedi, its more than likely that he will become a force ghost, like his old mentors Obi-Wan and Yoda.

It’s not guaranteed that Luke will appear in J.J. Abrams’ Episode IX but if Hamill gets his way, Luke in Force Ghost form will be a little different than what we’re used to.

“Well I thought, if he’s a Force Ghost I’d love to see him used in a way that hasn’t been done before,” Hamill told Radio Times. “I mean let’s use the word ghost! That implies that it’s frightening.”

Then, holding back on giving away his full idea, perhaps saving it for a conversation with Abrams, Hamill said: “What if he… even in some other form, I think it’d be funny… well, I don’t want to give it away.”

Hamill continued: “I do have ideas; most of them are so terrible that they don’t consider them at all! But like I say, I don’t know if I am going to be back.”

The actor also commented on Luke’s journey in The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, saying that he wishes he made it to Episode IX alive but that he loves the great moments the character has been given:

“JJ gave me one of the most spectacular entrances, certainly of my career, maybe in all of film history. I don’t know if anybody’s been talked about for two hours and then shows up for 30 seconds before the end credits roll. And what a spectacular exit Rian [Johnson, director of The Last Jedi] gave me!”

Do you think we will see Luke again? And what do you think of Hamill’s pitch for a scary Force Ghost?
