Fox pushes back X-Men: Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants

March 27, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Fox had big plans for the X-Men franchise in 2018, with the studio originally planning to release a triple-header in The New Mutants, Deadpool 2 and X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

However, back in January, the studio announced that it was pushing back the release of The New Mutants from April 2018 to February 2019 – with the film set to undergo “significant reshoots”, including the addition of a brand new character – and now we have word of more delays.

Firstly, The New Mutants has been delayed a further six months, and will now arrive on August 2nd, 2019, while Simon Kinberg’s directorial debut X-Men: Dark Phoenix has been pushed back from its original November 2nd release date and will now arrive on February 14th 2019.

The Valentine’s Day 2019 date was originally earmarked for the Channing Tatum-headlined Gambit movie, which will apparently arrive on June 7th 2019 (until it is pushed back again).

X-Men: Dark Phoenix sees Simon Kinberg directing a cast that includes franchise veterans Michael Fassbender (Magneto), James McAvoy (Professor X), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Alexandra Shipp (Storm), Sophie Turner (Jean Grey), Tye Sheridan (Cyclops), Kodi Smit-McPhee (Nightcrawler) and Evan Peters (Quicksilver) alongside new additions Jessica Chastain (Molly’s Game) and Lamar Johnson (Kings).

X-Men: The New Mutants is directed by Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars), and features a cast includes Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) as Rahne Sinclair/Wolfsbane, Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch) as Illyana Rasputin/Magik, Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things) as Sam Guthrie/Cannonball, Henry Zaga (13 Reasons Why) as Roberto da Costa/Sunspot, Blu Hunt (The Originals) as Danielle Moonstar/Mirage and Alice Braga (Queen of the South) as Dr. Cecilia Reyes.
