Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy hits $700 million worldwide

October 16, 2014 by Gary Collinson

Thanks to its strong performance in China, Marvel’s space opera Guardians of the Galaxy has now passed the $700 million mark at the global box-office, with the Phase Two film currently just shy of The Amazing Spider-Man 2’s haul of $707.9 million with $705.1 million to date. It looks certain now that Guardians will overtake Spider-Man and fellow MCU release Captain America: The Winter Soldier ($713.9 million), while X-Men: Days of Future Past’s $747.9 million is still a possibility. Either way it’s a superb result for Marvel and its “risky” little-known property…

Guardians of the Galaxy sees Gunn directing a cast that includes Chris Pratt (The LEGO Movie) as Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana (Star Trek Into Darkness) as Gamora, Dave Bautista (Riddick) as Drax the Destroyer, Bradley Cooper (American Hustle) as Rocket Raccoon, Vin Diesel (Fast & Furious 6) as Groot, Benicio Del Toro (Sin City) as The Collector, Lee Pace (The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug) as Ronan the Accuser, Karen Gillan (Doctor Who) as Nebula, Djimon Hounsou (Blood Diamond) as Korath, John C. Reilly (Step Brothers) as Rhomman Dey, Michael Rooker (The Walking Dead) as Yondu, Glenn Close (Damages) as Nova Prime Rael and Josh Brolin (Men in Black 3) as Thanos.
