Geoff Keighley reveals The Game Awards

November 11, 2014 by Tom Powter

Geoff Keighley, well known throughout the gaming community as the host and producer of the Spike Video Games (VGX) Awards, has unveiled a new games awards show titled ‘The Game Awards’. Creative, I know.

It appears however, that the show is already receiving backing from big names in the industry – platform holders Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft have all given the show their backing, as well as major publishers Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, Warner Bros. and Rockstar Games.

The Games Awards 2014 will be taking place on Friday, December 5th in Las Vegas, the night before Sony’s anticipated Playstation Experience. The awards ceremony is to be viewed as a “celebration” of gaming, where the industry will come together to note the “cultural significance of the world’s most dynamic form of entertainment.”

The event will be streamed on Xbox LIVE, the Playstation Network and on PC. The event promises juicy-sounding “world premiere announcements,” musical performances, and “other surprises.”

Organisers of the VGX Awards have yet to announce any plans for this year, though it’s interesting that Keighley’s new ceremony will not be affiliated with Spike.
