Jim Carrey, Keanu Reeves and Jason Momoa join Ana Lily Amirpour’s The Bad Batch

March 21, 2015 by Scott J. Davis

With a Sundance and London Film Festival appearance under its belt already, vampire movie A Girl Who Walks Home Alone at Night has been garnering lots of praise both for the film and its director Ana Lily Amirpour. So it comes as no surprise that her next film, The Bad Batch, is securing some top talent ahead of its April shoot.

Megan Ellison, producer of American Hustle and Her, and who helped secure the rights for the Terminator franchise and executive producer on Terminator Genysis, has snapped up Amirpour’s latest, a dystopian love story set in a Texas wasteland.

And, if securing a deal with Ellison’s Annapurna Productions wasn’t enough, the director has also assembled a talented, if diverse cast to bring the film to life. Suki Waterhouse (Insurgent), Diego Luna (Y Tu Mama Tambien) and Jason Momoa (Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice) have been announced as starring in the project, but it’s the names of Keanu Reeves (John Wick), and most notably Jim Carrey (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) that will have eyebrows raised.

The Playlist describes The Bad Batch as “a love story set in a community of cannibals…” and “…a highly twisted, unusual, romantic, and innovative movie set in a future dystopia. In a desert wasteland in Texas, a muscled cannibal breaks one important rule: don’t play with your food. The Bad Batch is a savage love story, like a psychedelic Road Warrior, inspired by films like El Topo and Wild At Heart. Shot in bold saturated hues and stylings of the ’80s & ’90s, the film will also feature a wicked techno & western-laced soundtrack.’ ”

Consider us intrigued. What do you think of the project and its unusual casting? Leave us your comments below…
