Fast & Furious 7 enjoys the second biggest opening of the year at the UK box office

UK box office top ten and analysis for the weekend of Friday 3rd April to Sunday 5th April 2015…

Fast & Furious 7 raced into cinemas this past weekend, with the film pulling in a franchise-high opening of £12,765,033, which is over £4 million more than its predecessor Fast & Furous 6’s £8.72 million debut back in 2013. It’s also the second-biggest debut of the year, behind Fifty Shades of Grey’s £13,550,290.

In addition to Furious 7, three other newcomers managed to crack the top ten, with Russell Crowe’s The Water Diviner earning £521,546 in seventh, followed by Noah Baumbach’s While We’re Young in eighth with £427,151 and Ridley Scott’s sci-fi classic Blade Runner: The Final Cut in ninth with £267,452.

2. Cinderella – £2,969,426 weekend (2 weeks)
3. Home – £2,387,579 weekend (3 weeks)
4. The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water – £1,121,097 weekend (2 weeks)
5. Get Hard – £845,040 weekend (2 weeks)
6. The Divergent Series: Insurgent – £594,587 weekend (3 weeks)
7. The Water Diviner – £521,546 weekend (New)
8. While We’re Young – £427,151 weekend (New)
9. Blade Runner: The Final Cut – £267,452 weekend (New)
10. The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel – £176,769 weekend (6 weeks)

The Duff (cert. 12A) opened in cinemas this past Monday, giving it a head start against Friday’s newcomers, which include Hot Tub Time Machine 2 (cert. 15), Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 (cert.
