ABC “cooking up” new Marvel TV projects, hopes Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will continue beyond season 6

August 12, 2018 by Gary Collinson

With Agent Carter and Inhumans cancelled, Marvel’s Most Wanted failing to move forward, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. perennially on the bubble amid falling ratings, the Disney-owned ABC isn’t having the greatest of successes with its Marvel television properties lately.

However, with the MCU branching out onto the likes of Netflix, Hulu and Freeform, ABC president Channing Dunget has revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that the network is working on several new Marvel-related projects:

“We’re cooking up a couple things for broadcast,” said Dungey. “There’s one that I want to talk about and [Marvel’s Head of Television] Jeph Loeb won’t let me.”

We do know that John Ridley (12 Years a Slave) has been working on a Marvel project with ABC for several years now, which is rumoured to revolve around Kamala Khan / Ms. Marvel, while the network was also working on a Damage Control comedy series a few years back. It’s unclear however whether Dungey is referring to either of these (or perhaps the “Jessica Jones-esque” show that Marvel teased last year), or if ABC has something different entirely in the works.

Meanwhile, Dungey also briefly commented on the upcoming sixth season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which has a shortened episode count and will air in the summer of 2019: “It’s my hope that by moving it to summer, where our live-same-day ratings are less important and it might be able to continue for longer.”
