Amazon and PBS Kids teaming for Clifford the Big Red Dog animated series

May 26, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Amazon Studios, PBS Kids and Scholastic Entertainment have announced a new animated series based upon Norman Bridwell’s Clifford the Big Red Dog children’s book series.

Dark Horizons reports that the new series will follow the adventures of Clifford and his best friend Emily Elizabeth, and will feature fresh and colourful new locations in addition to Birdwell Island. The 39-episode series will have a strong emphasis on social and emotional skills development, as well as boosting early literacy and encouraging imaginative play.

Clifford the Big Red Dog launched in 1963 and has previously spawned two animated series on PBS Kids, which ran from 2000 to 2003 and 2003 to 2006.

Along with the animated series, Clifford is heading to the big screen courtesy of Paramount Pictures, with Walt Becker (Van Wilder, Alvin and the Chipmunks) set to direct a live-action/CG-hybrid feature film.
