Any Marvel character can be killed, says Kevin Feige

February 28, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel Studios, has revealed there is no such thing as an invulnerable Marvel character.

With Captain Marvel about to debut, a character who is incredibly powerful, fans shouldn’t mistake strength with invulnerability, and that any of the Marvel Cinematic Universe characters can be killed, according to Kevin Feige.

Speaking to Screen Rant during a press junket for Captain Marvel, Feige was asked about how the studio keeps characters who are so powerful grounded.

Screen Rant asked: “Captain Marvel’s nearly omnipotent, which has been a challenge for writers in the comics for characters like Superman who have a lack of physical weakness. How do you keep the character grounded and vulnerable in future installments as her power grows?

Kevin Feige responded: “I think, as with some of the other characters you’ve mentioned, there are no characters — certainly no Marvel characters — that are invulnerable and that are immortal. They can all be killed at some point as Loki says to Thor in Avengers 1. So we may see that at some point, introduce that at some point.”

This is, of course, well worth bearing in mind in 2019, especially with Avengers: Endgame on the horizon. Who knows what the casualty list might be like come the film’s closing credits.

After the devastating events of Avengers: Infinity War, the universe is in ruins due to the efforts of the Mad Titan, Thanos. With the help of remaining allies, the Avengers must assemble once more in order to undo Thanos’ actions and restore order to the universe once and for all, no matter what consequences may be in store.

Avengers: Endgame stars Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Josh Brolin (Thanos), Brie Larson (Captain Marvel), Paul Rudd (Scott Lang), Don Cheadle (War Machine), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Paul Bettany (Vision), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Benedict Wong (Wong), Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Bradley Cooper (Rocket), Vin Diesel (Groot), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Gwyneth Paltrow (Pepper Potts), Evangeline Lilly (The Wasp), Letitia Wright (Shuri), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie), Jon Favreau (Happy Hogan), Tilda Swinton (The Ancient One) and Frank Grillo (Crossbones), as well as Hiroyuki Sanada (The Wolvervine) and Katherine Langford (13 Reasons Why).
