Arrow’s Stephen Amell and several former cast members returning for The Flash final season

January 4, 2023 by EJ Moreno

The world of DC is constantly shifting, especially in the film and television market. One thing has stayed consistent, though, and that’s The Flash.

For nearly ten years, the fan-favorite CW series has dominated, but it will soon come to a close with its ninth season. The creators of The Flash are looking to make this a time to celebrate, though, and are looking to bring back a plethora of former cast members – led by Arrow star Stephen Amell, who will be reprising his role as Oliver Queen for a guest appearance.

“As soon as our final season was announced, we knew we wanted Stephen to come back and reprise his iconic role as Oliver Queen,” said showrunner Eric Wallace. “After all, it was Oliver who originally launched Barry Allen on his heroic path. That’s why everyone on Team Flash felt so strongly that it was important to create a full-circle moment with Oliver’s return in the final season of The Flash.”

Along with Stephen Amell, Keiynan Lonsdale will also return as Wally West/Kid Flash, alongside David Ramsey as John Diggle/Spartan, and Sendhil Ramamurthy as Ramsey Rosso/Bloodwork.

Lonsdale has not appeared since season six, where Ramamurthy played one of the leading baddies. David Ramsey is still part of the Arrowverse and regularly appears in connecting shows like Superman & Lois, as well as the recently canceled Batwoman.

In a statement, Wallace addressed bringing back each of these iconic characters:

“As one of the legacy Arrowverse characters who helped start it all, John Diggle holds a special place in our hearts, as well as the fans,” Wallace said. “Plus, the commanding presence and commitment to excellence actor/director David Ramsey brings to the screen each-and every time is truly inspiring. So, of course, it was a no-brainer to have Diggle join Team Flash in our final season! So, get ready for a very emotional reunion as John Diggle, aka Spartan, helps protect Central City alongside Team Flash one last time.”

“Kid Flash isn’t just another speedster — he’s a beloved part of our Team Flash family. So as soon as we knew he was coming back, we set out to create a special and heartfelt story for his return. The result is a brilliant performance from Keiynan that showcases a side of Wally West you’ve never seen before,” adds Wallace.

“Ever since Sendhil turned in such a brilliantly haunting and unforgettable performance as the tortured Ramsey Rosso in Season 6, we’ve been looking for a way to bring him back,” said Wallace. “We also knew we wanted to have Ramsey play a part in Flash’s final race. Fortunately, everything came together, and now the villainous Bloodwork’s return will set into motion one of the Flash’s wildest and most emotional adventures yet.”

“Season 9 picks up one week following Barry (Grant Gustin) and Team Flash’s epic battle against the Reverse Flash (Tom Cavanagh) in the season 8 finale where they defeated him once and for all. Now, Barry and Iris (Candice Patton) are reconnecting and growing closer than ever before, but when a deadly group of Rogues descend on Central City led by a powerful new threat, The Flash and his team — Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker), Cecile Horton (Danielle Nicolet), Allegra Garcia (Kayla Compton), Chester P. Runk (Brandon McKnight), and Mark Blaine (Jon Cor) — work together to defeat the new threat only to discover a deadly new adversary rising to challenge Barry’s heroic legacy. In their greatest battle yet, Barry and Team Flash will be pushed to their limits in order to save Central City one last time.”

The Flash season 9 premieres on February 8th.
