Avengers: Infinity War directors reveal the off-screen fates of MCU supporting characters

May 13, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Warning. Spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War follow…

Avengers: Infinity War certainly delivered a major – and we do mean major – game-changer at its climax, as Thanos completed his quest to gather the Infinity Stones, snapped his fingers, and eliminated half of all life in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

While we saw a host of characters – Black Panther, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Winter Soldier, Falcon, Scarlet Witch, Star-Lord, Groot, Drax, Mantis, Nick Fury and Maria Hill – turning to dust, we’ve had no indication as to how The Snap impacted the rest of the MCU. At least, until now.

During an interview with The Huffington Post, directors Anthony and Joe Russo have revealed the fates of a number of supporting players in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, grouping them into three categories – alive, dead, and too spoilery to reveal.

First up, the brothers confirmed that surviving characters include Howard the Duck (Seth Green), Aunt May (Marisa Tomei) and, more likely than not, Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o).

Less fortunate were Lady Sif (Jaimie Alexander), Betty Ross (Liv Tyler), and the Asgardian actor resembling Matt Damon who portrayed Loki in Thor: Ragnarok., all of whom are confirmed by the Russos to be ashes.

And as for potential spoilers, the Russos refused to be drawn on the fates of Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), Shuri (Letitia Wright), Ned (Jacob Batalon), Korg (Taika Waititi) and Miek.

Now, if Joe or Anthony would care to reveal whether Cosmo survived, it would be much appreciated.

An unprecedented cinematic journey ten years in the making and spanning the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Infinity War” brings to the screen the ultimate, deadliest showdown of all time. The Avengers and their Super Hero allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe.

Avengers: Infinity War stars Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Paul Bettany (Vision), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Don Cheadle (War Machine), Josh Brolin (Thanos), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Benedict Wong (Wong), Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Bradley Cooper (Rocket), Sean Gunn (Rocket), Vin Diesel (Groot), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill), Benicio Del Toro (The Collector), Danai Gurira (Okoye), Letitia Wright (Shuri), Winston Duke (M’Baku), Terry Notary (Cull Obsidian), Tom Vaughan-Lawlor (Ebony Maw), Carrie Coon (Proxima Midnight), Michael James Shaw (Corvus Glaive) and Peter Dinklage (Eitri).
