Black Adam won’t appear in any Shazam! sequels until after his own solo movie

March 20, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Shazam! producer Peter Safran believes that Black Adam won’t appear in a Shazam! sequel before he gets his own solo movie.

It was long thought that Black Adam would be the villain for Shazam! but that hasn’t turned out to be the case. Although Dwayne Johnson is attached to play the character for DC, so far, nothing has come to fruition.

So, when will see the character on screen? Well, according to Shazam! producer Peter Safran, it won’t be in a future Shazam! sequel, at least not before Black Adam stars in his own solo film. Speaking to ComicBook.com, Safran said:

“Listen, we don’t know but I’ve gotta believe that there’s gonna be a standalone Black Adam movie before there’s ever a movie with Shazam and Black Adam sharing the screen.”

This would certainly jive with DC’s new plan of focusing on individual character stories. Something that Safran also commented on: “Yeah I think that is the goal, it is giving heroes their time to shine and not feeling like you have to shoehorn in some universal connection amongst them all. The studio’s been incredibly supportive and DC’s been supportive about saying take the time that you need to introduce these characters in the right way and tell the stories that you really want to tell, and that the audiences really want to see with these characters.”

We will have to wait and see what becomes of Black Adam but Shazam fans can get there fix very soon indeed with the film arriving early next month.

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Asher Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Zachary Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Mark Strong).

Shazam will see Zachary Levi starring as the titular superhero, with Asher Angel as his young alter-ego Billy Batson, Jack Dylan Grazer as Freddy Freeman, Ian Chen as Eugene Choi, Jovan Armand as Pedro Peña, Grace Fulton as Mary Marvel, Cooper Andrews as Victor Vasquez, Faithe Herman as Darla Dudley, Mark Strong as Dr. Thaddeus Sivana, Djimon Hounsou as the Wizard, Adam Brody as Freddie Freeman, Ross Butler as Eugene Choi, D. J. Cotrona as Pedro Pena, Meagan Good as Darla Dudley, and Michelle Borth as Mary Bromfield. The film is set for release on April 5th 2019.
