Blake’s 7: Afterlife audiobook incoming in October

June 12, 2025 by Andrew Newton

Big Finish has announced that the 1984 novel Blake’s 7: Afterlife will get an audiobook release in October. This novel, written by Tony Attwood, explores what happens after the dramatic end of the cult Blake’s 7 TV series. This upcoming audiobook is available to pre-order now from the Big Finish website.

Terry Nation’s hit TV series, Blake’s 7, came to a shocking end in 1981 and left audiences wondering what on Earth had happened to their favourite characters. By 1984, their questions were answered by Tony Attwood in his novel Afterlife.  The story, developed from an idea by screenwriter Chris Boucher, saw members of Blake’s rebellious crew continue to fight the good fight against the villainous Terran Federation, while at the same time the sinister Servalan continued to tighten her grip on the galaxy.

Alistair Lock in the studio

The story has been long out of print but come October, fans of Blake’s 7 will be able to purchase the audiobook from Big Finish and enjoy seven hours and fifty minutes listening to what happened after the final epic shootout on Gauda Prime. What’s more, the audiobook will come packaged with a PDF download of the original 2,000-word glossary for the novel.

The new reading of this audiobook is performed by Alastair Lock, who many Big Finish Blake’s 7 listeners will recognise as being the chap behind the voice of Orac and Zen.

Peter Anghelides

Producer Peter Anghelides said: “When we released the audiobook of Paul Darrow’s prequel novel Avon: A Terrible Aspect, we knew we wanted to do the same with Tony Attwood’s Afterlife, because it’s the other original novel from the time of the TV series that bookends the whole of Blake’s 7…… Following directly on from the explosive TV finale, Afterlife reveals not only the consequences for our heroes from Scorpio, but also what happened to the character most significantly absent from that story – Servalan herself. Now fans can hear these startling events brilliantly read by the familiar voice of Alistair Lock in this brand-new reading.”

Fans of Blake’s 7 can pre-order Blake’s 7: Afterlife as a digital download for £21.99, exclusively from the Big Finish website.
