Deadline is reporting that NBC has given a script commitment to a TV adaptation of John Stockwell’s 2002 surfing film Blue Crush, which is being written and executive produced by Lizzy Weiss, co-writer of the original film.
Blue Crush starred Kate Bosworth, Michelle Rodriguez and Sanoe Lake as three friends living the dream of surfing on Hawaii’s famed North Shore. It grossed over $50 million at the box office, and also spawned a direct-to-video sequel in 2011.
The TV series will reunite Wiess with the film’s producer Brian Grazer of Imagine Entertainment. Weiss also has the fifth and final season of her Peabody-winning drama Switched At Birth set to premiere in January.
