Common says George Miller’s Justice League Mortal was going to have a “raw edge”

February 14, 2017 by Robert Kojder

Common is currently participating in interviews for the now released John Wick: Chapter 2 [you can read my review here], and as us to be expected the actor is fielding a number of superhero related questions. Specifically, Yahoo Movies asked about his casting as Green Lantern in Mad Max creator George Miller’s unfortunately canned Justice League Mortal project.

“Yeah, I was cast and we started rehearsals for the film,” said the actor/rapper. “I went to Australia. I tried on the outfit and everything. It was heartbreaking, but it happened. The script was super-dope. It was intricate. And knowing George Miller was going to do it, you knew it was going to have that raw edge. But it had Superman, Aquaman, it had all of the characters really involved. Each one of them had moments and you got to know them. It was a strong piece.”

All hope is not lost, as Common still wishes to play John Stewart in DC’s Green Lantern Corps, despite his previous role in last year’s Suicide Squad: “I would love to, I’ll say that. That would be a blessing. That would be incredible to get the opportunity. But that’s up to the studio and DC and those guys to see who they feel is the right person. But it would be an incredible honor and I would be geeked for that character and that role. I would go to the highest with that role.”

Let us know in the comments below if you would like to see Common as John Stewart…

Justice League Mortal would have starred Armie Hammer (The Lone Ranger) as Batman, D.J. Cotrona (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) as Superman, Megan Gale (Stealth) as Wonder Woman, Adam Brody (The O.C.) as Barry Allen, Anton Yelchin (Star Trek) as Wally West, Hugh Keays-Byrne (Mad Max) as Martian Manhunter, Santiago Cabrera (Heroes) as Aquaman and Common (John Wick: Chapter 2) as Green Lantern.
