Daredevil: Born Again season 2 wraps filming, adds another returning actor from original Netflix series

July 15, 2025 by Ricky Church

The anticipated second season of Daredevil: Born Again has wrapped production, but that is not the only exciting news as fans of the original Netflix Daredevil series will be happy to hear another actor is returning to continue aiding Daredevil and his allies in their fight against Kingpin.

In an Instagram post shared by Naqam Washington, the physical trainer for both Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio, he seemingly revealed Royce Johnson will reprise his role as Detective Brett Mahoney for the upcoming season.

Appearing in Netflix’s Daredevil and starring in all three seasons as well as making appearances in the streamer’s other Defenders series, Mahoney began as a beat cop until he was promoted to detective in the second season. Unlike many of the corrupt cops who worked for Wilson Fisk, Mahoney was staunchly moral and often aided Matt Murdock, Foggy Nelson and Karen Page in their investigations along with, unbeknownst to him, Murdock’s alter-ego Daredevil.

Mahoney joins fellow Defenders returnee Krysten Ritter, who will reprise her role as private investigator Jessica Jones in Born Again season two. These mark the latest Netflix returns after season one brought back Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, Jon Bernthal as The Punisher, Wilson Bethel as Bullseye and Ayelet Zurer as Vanessa Fisk alongside Cox and D’Onofrio.

We’ll have to wait and see if any more Netflix MCU actors will also be brought back for the fight for New York City. Meanwhile howeveer, newcomers to the MCU for season 2 include Matthew Lillard and Lili Taylor, whose roles are being kept under wraps at present.

In “Daredevil: Born Again,” Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), a blind lawyer with heightened abilities, is fighting for justice through his bustling law firm, while former mob boss Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) pursues his own political endeavors in New York. When their past identities begin to emerge, both men find themselves on an inevitable collision course.

Daredevil: Born Again season one is streaming now on Disney+ and stars Charlie Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio, Margarita Levieva, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Zabryna Guevara, Nikki James, Genneya Walton, Arty Froushan, Clark Johnson, Michael Gandolfini, Ayelet Zurer and Jon Bernthal.
