Dawn of the Planet of the Apes crosses $600 million worldwide

September 1, 2014 by Gary Collinson

Having already become the highest grossing instalment in the franchise, Fox’s simian sequel Dawn of the Planet of the Apes has now crossed $600 million at the global box office, with an opening weekend of $47 million in China helping to push the film to an impressive $611 million to date. Apes is the sixth film to surpass $600 million this year after Transformers: Age of Extinction, Maleficent, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is directed by Matt Reeves (Let Me In) and sees Rise of the Planet of the Apes star Andy Serkis returning as Caesar alongside Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty), Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight Rises), Keri Russell (Mission: Impossible III), Toby Kebbell (Wrath of the Titans), Kodi Smit-McPhee (Let Me In), Enrique Murciano (Black Hawk Down), Kirk Acevedo (The Thin Red Line) and Judy Greer (13 Going on 30).
